MORRISON, CO
We had so much fun exploring with these two for their Lair o’ the Bear engagement photography session in Morrison. We had originally planned to meet Jasmine & Scott up at Jones Pass for some stunning panoramic mountain views but we had to find a new spot for their late-August engagement session due to wildfires that were gaining ground in Colorado and causing road closures.
We took the trail toward Bear Creek which led us to this elegant large old tree, with enough room for them to sit on. The light shining through the haze of the forest fires cast a soft golden glow even earlier than we expected which was a surprise we were happy to work with. We were glad Jasmine and Scott were up to wade into the water (multiple times) for their summer engagement photos and it helped us beat the heat as we followed in after them.
They sat on a log, feet dangling in the water and shared a moment as we tried our best to carefully navigate the slippery wet rocks without much grace. Thankfully they were so wrapped up in conversation with each other that they barely noticed Griffin and I hobbling around barefoot in the background. It’s a good thing we weren’t the ones being photographed!
In the summer, Lair o’ the Bear Park is a stunning outdoor destination that showcases the beauty of Colorado’s natural landscape. As visitors enter the park, they are greeted by lush greenery and the sound of rushing water from Bear Creek, which runs alongside the park’s trails. The park’s hiking trails offer scenic views of the surrounding mountain ranges, with wildflowers blooming in vibrant colors and gentle breezes carrying the sweet scent of pine.
In addition to hiking, Lair o’ the Bear visitors enjoyed picnicking by the creek, fishing for trout, or mountain biking on the park’s challenging trails. On hot summer days, visitors can cool off in the refreshing waters of Bear Creek or take a dip in the nearby swim beach. With its stunning scenery and diverse range of activities, Lair o’ the Bear Park is a true gem of Colorado’s outdoor landscape during the summer months and makes for a perfect place for couple photography.
Some of our engagement photography tips for a hot summer day include choosing a location that offers plenty of shade and relief from the sun, such as a wooded area. Second, dress in lightweight, breathable fabrics that won’t stick to your skin or make you feel uncomfortable. Third, bring along plenty of water and stay hydrated throughout the session. Finally, consider scheduling your shoot during the cooler hours of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon. With these tips in mind, you can enjoy a comfortable and enjoyable engagement photoshoot, while still capturing the excitement and love of this special time.
While talking with Jasmine and Scott, we heard about their elopement in October and how their wedding day plans had evolved since the pandemic. They were excited to finally tie the knot and that their ceremony would be intimate and personal, focused solely around the two of them. In between traversing the creek, we took some photos in the field where Jasmine showed off her gorgeous gold dress. These two really enjoyed each other’s company which made our job easy!
