LAKE GEORGE, CO
While Bailey & Kyle were traveling in Colorado, they decided they didn’t want to pass up the chance to have their Eleven Mile Canyon engagement photos taken and we couldn’t blame them! These two traveled from Dallas, TX to visit our beautiful backcountry on a trip to see family in Divide.
We met at Eleven Mile Canyon in Lake George, not too far from Colorado Springs. Rolling foothills led the way to this beautiful hidden canyon surrounding the South Platte River. Having travelled all the way from Fort Collins, we made a day trip out of this session and spent the afternoon scouting the area for some good portrait locations – checking out spots along the river, hiking to overlooks, exploring campgrounds and picnic areas. It didn’t take us long to realize that we had a lot to work with in this gorgeous 11 mile river stretch.
We began the session at a calm spot along the river that was blooming with wildflowers and slowly made our way up the canyon towards the dam, stopping at scenic spots along the way. The river, which was clearly a fishing paradise, had slow moving pools mixed with white water rapids, and seemed to be the main draw for most visitors. It was our first shoot since the pandemic began and to say we’ve missed being behind our cameras is truly an understatement.
Towards the end of the session, the light spilled over the canyon rocks and lit up a field of gold, which was the perfect opportunity to get some portraits with their pup Chester on our way up to the overlook. We trekked up the path to a sight that was truly worth the effort. The stunning view overlooking the river was where we took some of our favorite portraits of the session. We couldn’t be happier to be back adventuring with couples again!
