Nana and Garth’s Wild Basin Lodge wedding this fall in Estes Park was filled with heartfelt moments and the breathtaking beauty of October in the Rocky Mountains.
We first met Nana and Garth last October for their engagement photos at Cottonwood Pass in Buena Vista. We had planned for golden fall colors, but instead, we found ourselves caught in a surprise winter blizzard. It was in that snowy adventure that we discovered just how fun, adventurous, and up-for-anything these two are. Ever since then, we’ve been looking forward to seeing these two again for their Wild Basin Lodge wedding. We knew their day was going to be special and indeed it was a perfect reflection of their love and the family they’ve built together.
After a morning filled with the excitement of getting ready alongside family and friends, the time had finally come for Nana and Garth’s first look by the St. Vrain River. Surrounded by golden fall colors, Nana and Garth shared a private moment, and he was in awe of her. Their beloved dog, Tater Tots, joined them for the first look, adding a playful touch to the moment.
After their first look, we began wandering along the path toward Meadow Peak. Every time I photograph a Wild Basin Lodge wedding and cross the bridge over the St. Vrain River, I find myself looking longingly at a particular riverside spot below. It’s usually blocked by thick brush and trees, making it inaccessible. But on this day, for the first time ever, I noticed a clear path leading down to that elusive riverside location.
I ventured down to check it out, hoping it would be safe and easy enough to bring Nana and Garth along. Surprisingly, it was accessible and this adventurous couple was immediately on board!
As we made our way down to the river, it felt as if we had stumbled upon a hidden treasure. We captured portraits of the newlyweds along the St. Vrain River, which was glowing with fall color in some of my favorite newlywed portraits I’ve ever taken of a Wild Basin Lodge wedding. Nana and Garth’s chemistry was as effortless as ever — they always have an amazing time in each other’s company, making our job easy.
Nana and Garth’s ceremony took place outdoors in Meadows Peak at Wild Basin Lodge, it was a celebration not just of their love but also of the family they’ve created together. One especially sweet moment came during the vows when their son stood by Garth’s side, holding onto him and intently watching as they promised their futures to each other. As documentary-style photographers, we are always on the lookout for those small, quiet moments that often go unnoticed but carry immense emotional weight. These subtle, unscripted moments are the threads that weave together the larger story of the day.
After their ceremony, Nana and Garth enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the rest of their day and spent time socializing with the llamas during cocktail hour —a playful touch that’s unique to this venue. Nana kicked off her shoes and spent the rest of the evening walking barefoot.
The newlyweds casually strolled into their reception hall, greeted by a loud cheer from their enthusiastic guests, who were eager to celebrate the happy couple. After enjoying a delicious dinner, their family and friends delivered heartfelt speeches that brought both laughter and a few tears. Later, everyone gathered on the River Run Deck, illuminated by the soft glow of café lights, for the first dances. Nana and Garth’s first dance was a beautifully choreographed routine that added an element of fun and excitement, inviting everyone to join them on the dance floor and kick off an evening of lively celebration.
Cheers to Nana and Garth! Enjoy some of our favorite photos from their Wild Basin Lodge wedding!
