Minh and Maddison’s Wild Basin Lodge wedding was a special one. Weddings are more than just celebrations—they’re windows into a couple’s story, alive with connection, energy, and love. Minh and Maddison’s wedding was packed with the kind of moments that give you the feels, the kind of energy that is palpable and the kind of love that is felt by all. We left with full hearts and so much appreciation for these two who placed their trust in us to document all of it.
As documentary wedding photographers, we often meet our couples’ friends and family for the first (and only) time on their wedding day. It’s a special honor to be able to document moments that carry so much significance and it’s always amazing how much of an impression they can leave on us in a one day.
Minh and Maddison shared their first look by the St. Vrain River. The river at Wild Basin Lodge is an ideal spot for a first look, combining beauty with tranquility to make their first look even more intimate. It’s a private spot with a calming atmosphere, allowing couples to be fully present with each other as they share their emotions for the first time on their wedding day, subsequently setting the tone for their wedding day. Minh & Maddison were so excited to see each other and that energy flowed effortlessly into their newlywed portraits by the river.
Nestled in the heart of Colorado’s natural beauty, Wild Basin Lodge’s Meadow Peak was a dreamy backdrop for their ceremony with views of Mt. Meeker and Longs Peak. The setting not only added a sense of grandeur to their vows but also gave their guests, many of whom traveled from afar, an unforgettable glimpse of Colorado’s majestic mountains. Minh and Maddison exchanged heartfelt vows, wiping away tears, and there wasn’t a dry eye among their guests—ourselves included.
What stood out most about their Wild Basin Lodge wedding was their deep sense of community and their ability to fully embrace each moment of their special day. From the heartfelt toasts and quiet, meaningful exchanges during the ceremony to the lively energy on the dance floor, every part of the day reflected the strong bonds they’ve built together. They openly shared their experience with loved ones, allowing themselves to be vulnerable and fully present.
Minh and Maddison’s wedding was a perfect example of why a documentary-style photography approach is so meaningful. While we always capture the essential portraits, the true magic is in the unscripted moments where genuine emotion shines through. This approach allows couples like Minh and Maddison to fully immerse themselves in their day without stepping out of the moment. Couples often feel immense pressure to make their day look perfect, but we believe that how the day feels matters so much more.
The evening at Minh and Maddison’s wedding was filled with heartfelt moments and lively celebrations. Emotional toasts brought the crowd to roaring laughter, a testament to the close bonds they share with their loved ones. The first dances on the riverfront deck added a special touch, beginning with Minh and Maddison’s own, followed by emotional dances with their parents. As the festivities continued in the reception hall with open dancing, we stole a quiet moment with the couple during blue hour to capture stunning portraits in front of the Wild Basin Lodge.
Wild Basin Lodge is one of our favorite wedding venues in Estes Park, thanks to its stunning location and breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains. We were fortunate to photograph several weddings there this year, which is a special treat for us!
