COLORADO SPRINGS, CO
It was a beautiful September day to celebrate Brittany & Aaron’s Garden of the Gods Club & Resort wedding in Colorado Springs. Brittany and Aaron met while commuting to work on the train and after a few weeks Aaron mustered up the courage to speak to her. Before they knew it, they were planning their wedding day all the way from California! Due to the increasing concern of a fall COVID surge, they decided to move their Colorado Springs wedding from October to mid-September and although sacrifices were made and the guest list was slimmed down, they were grateful to still be able to celebrate with their closest family and friends amidst the wild year of 2020.
Aaron was out playing golf with the guys while Brittany was busy getting ready at the Garden of the Gods Resort and Club. She had her hair and make-up done in a suite by the balcony windows, with the Garden of the Gods Park and Pikes Peak as the backdrop. They shared their first look by the reflection pond before heading over to the Garden of the Gods Park for portraits.
When we arrived at High Point Overlook, Brittany swapped her heels for sandals to better navigate the rocky terrain. It was windy, but these two didn’t seem to mind as the warm summer gusts whipped around Brittany’s lace dress train. It isn’t always easy for us when it’s windy, but every now and again we get lucky and catch a windswept moment that captures the energy of the movement in all of its glory.
About mid-way through portraits, Griffin came over to me and whispered, “I think I ripped my pants.” I was in the middle of shooting and just blurted out, “No you didn’t!” in complete disbelief. Then I questioned myself, why would he make that up?! My gaze had been glued to the viewfinder but I dropped the camera to my side and asked to see proof. Apparently he had bent down to grab Brittany’s sandals when his dress pants split right up the back.
I was in shock, but that quickly turned into a giggle and then a laughing fit. Well, we can say with confidence that this was a first for us, or for Griffin rather. Only in 2020 would something like this happen! We couldn’t hide this from Brittany and Aaron either, who soon after shared in our amusement. At least Griffin’s pants were dark and as he walked around it wasn’t entirely noticeable. But he did indeed have to see this wedding through, ripped pants and all!
Shortly afterward, we wrapped up portraits at the park and made our way back to the resort. Brittany and Aaron’s ceremony was about to begin and guests were taking their seats. Aaron’s brother officiated from a safe distance and really personalized their ceremony, a nice touch and fitting role for someone who knew them so well. The sunlight peeked out from behind the clouds, shining beams of light onto the foothills throughout their ceremony. Aaron concluded their ceremony with the breaking of the glass and guests cheered Mazel Tov!
After cocktail hour wrapped up, Brittany and Aaron had their first dance outside on the patio. Aaron was feeling the beat and swept Brittany off her feet for multiple twirls. After dinner family and friends gave toasts and reminisced over stories of the newlyweds. Luckily, they were able to hold their entire reception outdoors on the patio, making for a more COVID-friendly environment. They capped the night with an epic dance off to ‘Rock Lobster’ by the B-52’s, a family tradition led by Brittany’s uncle, who slayed all dance floor expectations.
As we left, a guest whispered to Griffin he should get those pants fixed and I laughed all the way to the car. We surely won’t forget this wedding! Enjoy some of our favorite images from their special day!
